John Podhoretz, like me, wishing the hell that Donald Trump wasn’t president, writes the following:
“The issue with Trump is that his approach can only be called ‘the politics of unseriousness.’ He engages with no issue, merely offers a hostile and pithy soundbite bromide about it. He yammers. He describes how wonderful things will be when he acts against something or other without explaining how he will act, what he will do, or how it will work.
"Reader, we married him.”
Uh, I didn’t marry him, John. But you created him.
You created him when you joined with your comrade in arms William Kristol to oppose Bill Clinton’s health care proposals sight unseeen. Because the important thing was not to help the American people; the important thing was to help the Republican Party! Because only the Republican Party would protect Israel!
You chose to–how shall I put this?–suck Newt Gingrich’s cock while—again, I grope for le mot juste–taking it in the ass from Rush Limbaugh, all for the greater glory of, well, of defeating those goddamn Clintons. You applauded Bush v. Gore, the worst Supreme Court decision in American history, because it gave you the opportunity to lie the American people into a disastrous, counterproductive war, costing the U.S. thousands of lives and tens of thousands of casualties, not to mention the millions in the Middle East who suffered and, often, died as a result of your stunningly incompetent hubris, for which you continue to deny any and all responsibility, though all of the responsibility is yours.
The oppressive incompetence of U.S occupation forces led the Iraqis to demand the total withdrawal of our troops, in an agreement signed by your president, George Bush. Yet when the withdrawal came, you blamed it all on Bush’s successor, Barack Obama, who had no say in the matter whatsoever.
President Obama took office in the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression. But that made no difference to you. Again, you conspired with your regular gang of plug-uglies–the Rush Limbaughs, the Bill O'Reillys, the entire Fox News gang, of which you and your elegant intellectual friends were now junior members–to wage unremitting and unscrupulous war against the president, to undermine his agenda in every way, regardless of content, in a mission of utter and mindless destruction.
For twenty-five years, Rush Limbaugh was the id of the Republican Party, which you thought you could ride and control as a beast of burden. But now the beast has risen and rides you, for what is Donald Trump but Rush Limbaugh with a bad weave?
“The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again: but already it was impossible to say which was which.”
