I’ve made this plea before, but, obviously, God wasn’t listening. Or, if God was, Bernie wasn’t.
Bernie Sanders has no reason to listen to anyone. In 2012, the best election of his life, Bernie polled almost 300,000 votes. In 2016, he’s polled well over 9 million, which in political terms gives him the right to be 30 times as much of a pain in the ass as he was before, and Bernie is definitely feeling the Bern.
On foreign policy and civil liberties issues, Bernie is, if not 30 times better than Hillary, he’s still a lot better. Sadly, that’s not what Bernie wants to talk about. What he does want to talk about is pulling up our economic moats and turning the U.S. economy into a Festung America1. Obviously, I think that’s stupid, but Bernie’s on a roll. All of his life he’s dreamed of leading a revolution, and now he’s doing it, and he isn’t going to shut up.
So what’s Hillary to do? I’m starting to think that she’ll need to take on Elizabeth Warren as vice president. Newsweek, which is almost as profitable as I am, says that Lizzie would be a terrible pick, and thus won’t make the cut, but I think Warren is the one leftie with enough star power to shut Bernie up placate the left. And I think that shutting Bernie up would be a great idea, and placating the left, a (sadly) necessary one.
