“There is a simple way Republicans can show some mettle [and defy Trump]: if five senators — starting with Maine’s Susan Collins, who complains it’s unacceptable to impede Mueller but does little about it — say they won’t vote for anther federal judge until legislation is enacted guaranteeing the independence of the special counsel. The model is the 1973 set of conditions laid down by Republicans for a special counsel investigating Richard Nixon.”
Thus Bloomberg View pundit/wishful thinker Albert R. Hunt, a-wishin’ and a-hopin’ that someone, anyone, in the Republican Party would/could grow a pair. Yeah, and after that happens, Al, why don’t you lasso and bridle Pegasus for me, will ya? On a second thought, better get Pegasus first; Hell will freeze over long before Suzie Q and the Four Dwarves defy the Donald.
Afterwords
I have frequently (and loudly) said that there is not one Republican with a shred of honor. The time to defy Trump was last year, when a mere three Republican senators could have derailed the atrocious tax bill that was shoved into and through the Senate by Midnight Plowboy Mitch McConnell, during which exercise the supposedly principled Sen. Collins hiked her skirt, lowered her panties, grabbed her ankles, and thought of raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, as did John McCain, and Ben Sasse, not to mention the virtuous departed Jeff Flake, Bob Corker, and Orrin Hatch (sort of). All of them shivered and trembled and obeyed, out of sheer and utter cowardice.
