I have two new pieces up at Bright Lights After Dark, the blog for the Bright Lights Film Journal. The Journal, formerly an online quarterly, is now putting up all of its articles bloggy style.
My first new piece is the not terribly heavy 1933 musical “Going Hollywood, which offers pretty definite proof that Marion Davies, long-time squeeze of William Randolph Hearst, gave her best performances in the bedroom. Also up is “Heavy TV, Part Deux,” which picks up where “Heavy TV, Part Un” left off, recapping the finale of Breaking Bad and catching up with both Girls and Mad Men.
You can catch up with my reviews of all of Charlie Chaplin’s films, and all of Fred Astaire’s musical films, here. A complete listing of all of my reviews for BLFJ is here, and all of my postings for BLAD are here, though I warn you that an embarrassing percentage of my early work are cheesy riffs at the expense of Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan. I was just a beginning blogger back then, and I had a strong tendency to go for the easy joke
