At his blog, Matthew Yglesias snickers at Washington Institution Mark Russell, noting in amazement that Mark’s trademark toothless wit is offered as special bonus for anyone ponying up $440,000 for the Shoreham’s “44th Commander-In-Chief” package—four days and nights in the Shoreham’s Presidential suite, tickets to the Inauguration, and more!
“I’ve gotta say, ‘in-room dinner with entertainment by political satirist Mark Russell’ is way down the list of things I would want to buy with my $440,000,” chuckles Matt.
Russell, whose mirthless ditties, like “The Budget Deficit Rag” and “The Trade Deficit Drag” and “The OMB Clearance Rhumba,” were satirized in Episode 1.iii.a of The Simpsons, airing in 1972, has been putting Washington audiences to sleep since the Eisenhower Administration. One can only hope that the purchaser of the 44th package turns out to be, I don’t know, Axel Rose or P Diddy or Rosie O’Donnell. Rock on!
