Okay, Literature R Us has never scooped anyone in its 15 year existence, but this strangely seems to be a “speculation scoop”, to wit: How the hell is Joe Biden going to survive the testimony of “whistleblower” Gary Shapley appearing in today’s Washington Post, testimony that, if unrebutted, should convince just about everyone that Hunter Biden engaged in repeated acts of willful tax evasion that should have earned him several years in the slammer, and the only reason that that didn’t happen is that he is the president’s son. I mean, doesn’t this “prove” everything the Republicans have been saying about the Justice Department?
Here is what Shapley told a House Committee, according to the Post:
“He was expensing personal expenses, his business expenses,” Shapley said. “There was a $25,000 to one of his girlfriends and it said, ‘golf membership.’ And then we went out and followed that money it was for a sex club membership in LA. ... There were multiple examples of prostitutes that were ordered basically, and we have all the communications between that where he would pay for these prostitutes, would book them a flight where even the flight ticket showed their name. And then he expensed those.”
The New York Times has a similar story. Yet I can find no commentary in either publication, nor in Politico, Reason, the New York Magazine, the Bulwark, the Dispatch, Slate, or even the National Review, which actually ran the story last night. Hunter’s “story” is abysmally sordid, as the above quotation demonstrates. Is Shapley lying? How would that be possible? Do the records he says he saw not exist? Is the Justice Department going to deny they exist, or just say they don’t release confidential information unless it’s part of a case? The plea bargain that Hunter cut with the Justice Department has to be approved by a judge. Is that going to happen?
If what Shapley says is true, I don’t see how Justice will be able to avoid charging Hunter with multiple felonies. Republicans in the House will almost surely impeach Attorney General Merrick Garland as well as the President. Kamala Harris had better get ready for her close up.
