Hell no I did not! The Washington Post, not known for its skepticism regarding America’s military intellectual complex—because it’s a charter member!—just can’t stop snickering at the B-21 “bomber”, sounding a hell of lot like me! Noting that Congress has kept the big boy’s budget secret, and that the plane’s recent roll-out was as primly controlled as an Amish beauty pageant, the Post chuckled that “Whether the B-21 is capable of eluding enemy radars, it has already proved that it can avoid public scrutiny.”
The Post even goes the extra mile—or at least an extra mile—to make fun of the B-21’s predecessors in profligacy, the B-70 and B-1: “The U.S. Air Force has, to put it mildly, a mixed record building strategic bombers over the past 60 years.” I, however, will go another extra mile, and suggest that the Air Force is retiring both the B-70 and the B-1 in the relatively near future, not to free up money for the B-21, as it claims, but rather because they’re both flightless turkeys/money pits.
There is, unfortunately, a limit to the Post’s skepticism: they aren’t willing to admit the whole bomber program is a complete charade. But this is definitely a start! Baby steps, WP! Baby steps!
