Thus, Clive Crook, struggling to understand why Charles Krauthammer is mad about President Obama’s tax compromise with Mitch McConnell.
Why is Charlie so pissed? As Clive points out, in a very nice column, Krauthammer presumably approves of the extension of the Bush tax cuts, perhaps even at the cost of financing them with “borrowed Chinese dollars” (puh-leeeeeze!).
Well, let me parse it for you, Clive. Charlie was hoping that the Republicans would pulverize Obama, just reduce him to dust. But those Democratic presidents, they are wily, and Obama pulled a Clinton, probably guaranteeing himself re-election, or so Krauthammer fears. Krauthammer fears Obama’s re-election more than anything, because if Obama is re-elected, it will prove that an American President does not have to be totally in the tank for Israel to win re-election. And Israel, not taxes, not deficits, not fiscal policy, not monetary policy, not anything but Israel, is what Charles is all about.
