“The Israeli military chief [the chief of staff of the Israeli Defense Force, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz*] described the Iranian government as ‘rational’† in interviews published Wednesday and said he did not believe it would build a nuclear bomb.”
Jodi, getting a wee bit editorial on our asses, opines that Gen. Gantz appeared “to put some distance between himself and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak.” Since Netanyahu has been eagerly comparing Iran’s non-existent bomb to Hitler’s Holocaust, I’d have to agree with Jodi on this one.
On the other side of the world, Leon Panetta’s constant nightmare, North Korea, is still the gang that couldn’t shoot straight. The AP’s Eric Talmadge fills us in:
“The weapons displayed April 15 appear to be a mishmash of liquid-fuel and solid-fuel components that could never fly together. Undulating casings on the missiles suggest the metal is too thin to withstand flight. Each missile was slightly different from the others, even though all were supposedly the same make. They don’t even fit the launchers they were carried on.”
“Human beings cannot bear much reality,” remarked T.S. Eliot. I know these truths will be too much for many.
*This could be easily contradicted by, you know, facts, but I wonder if things wouldn’t go better if we had more generals named “Benny.”
†The “very rational” terminology occurs later in the article.
