The redoubtable Ann Coulter, speaking before a no-doubt raucous CPAC crowd, unleashed the following zinger, or perhaps zenger, on Saturday night:
I can see why Democrats would want amnesty, but why on earth are Marco Rubio and these endless Bushes supporting it? Even Shemp and Zippo Bush are supporting amnesty for illegals.
Now, who doesn’t know that the fourth Marx brother was named Zeppo rather than “Zippo”? Was it Ann or Politico scribe Kevin Robillard? But, in a larger sense, who cares? It’s obvious that Ann was going for Zeppo, who retired, well, 80 years ago. As for Shemp, he died in 1955. Watch a lot of late night TV, do you, Ann?
Afterwords
On a broader note, it’s wonderful to see Ann beating the crap out of Republicans for daring to talk sense, or even quasi-sense, about immigration, and even more wonderful to see her getting a big hand at CPAC for doing so. Long may the Republicans flounder.
