I am a writer living in Washington, DC. I have been maintaining this blog since late 2007, not realizing at the time that I would be chronicling the decline and fall of practically everything. Along with persistent kvetches devoted to things political and “cultural”, I frequently offer selected jazz videos, largely though not exclusively devoted to performances of the works of Thelonious Monk, to alleviate the horror.
I have published two “dead tree” novels, Sherlock Holmes and the Giant Rat of Sumatra and Sherlock Holmes and the Hapsburg Tiara, which is also available in a full-text audio edition. I have self-published, via Amazon, the following titles in both ebook and paperback print on demand versions:
- Alternative Worlds: Elvis and others (novella and short stories)
- I Am Jill's Hyman (novel)
- Tongue of Newt (novel)
- Traveling North: The Education of Alice Barnstable (novel)
- James Thurber, A Reader’s Guide (criticism)
- Brief Lives (short stories)
- Vorak of Kolnap (science fiction novel)
- Author! Author! (novella and two short stories)
In addition, I have also self-published as a free ebook Three Bullets: A New Nero Wolfe Threesome, recreating Rex Stout’s famous fat detective. Links for all of these books can be found on my Books page.
Prior to creating my own blog, I wrote numerous reviews for the Bright Lights Film Journal.
