The headline in the Phoenix New Times says it all, or at least most of it: “Paul Babeu’s Mexican Ex-Lover Says Sheriff’s Attorney Threatened Him With Deportation.” Yes, Paul Bebeu, an Arizona sheriff who’s running for Congress as a Republican in Arizona’s Fourth District and who, until recently, was Arizona co-chair of Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, apparently had his attorney lean on a former boy friend with threats of deportation if the young lad went public with their affair. More (a lot more) here.
Over at Slate, Dave Weigel recalls happier times, when a closeted Babeu rapped with John McCain on the necessity of getting tough with the damn illegals. “Complete the dang fence!” Indeed.
