Thus Chris Christie, speaking to a meeting of the Republican National Committee. “Now college professors are fine I guess.” Well, I mean, if you like pussies and Tinker Belles, sissies who sit around drinking chamomile tea with their pinkies sticking out—yeah, sure, college professors are great. I mean, if that’s what you like, that’s what you like. But just stay the fuck out of Jersey if you want to live.
That’s what we seem to be getting from Big Chris these days. The guy who once appointed a Muslim judge seems to have decided that belligerence as an end in itself constitutes a political platform. All that libertarian talk about “liberties” and shit is just talk! What we need is action!
Chris seems to be drinking from the same “moderate Republican” cup as Mayor Bloomberg across the Hudson. Defending his noxious “stop and frisk” policy to the New Yorker’s Ken Auletta, Big Mike “explained” that “saving lives is the most important thing, more so than pandering”—“pandering” being Michael Bloomberg talk for, you know, the Constitution.
There used to be a time when moderate Republicans were the champions of civil rights, civil liberties, and due process, but that was another time. “Stop and frisk” is based on white fear of black and Hispanic youth. Those kids scare us, god damn it, so we’re going to scare them! Every time they walk out of the house, they know a cop is going to come down on them. You want the cops to leave you alone? Stay inside, so we don’t have to see you!
According to Mike, “stop-and-frisk has been shown to be—not the only, but the most effective, tool in getting guns out of the hands of kids.” Mr. Expert has, of course, no data to back this up, but he doesn’t care, and he doesn’t care how grossly he violates the rights of young blacks and Hispanics. By Mike’s standards, if stop and frisk produced one gun, that would prove that it “worked.” And, of course, anything that works is ipso facto valid.
Big Chris is shaping up as the billionaire’s choice for 2016, with his “bold” talk about cutting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, because we all have to make sacrifices—another rant for another time, but about which I definitely will be ranting. One policy outrage at a time!
