“I’m not running, I’m not planning on running,” Mitt Romney told Fox News regarding the 2016 presidential election. “My time has come and gone. I had that opportunity. I ran and didn’t win.”
Well, Mitt is a pretty smart guy, and I think his take here is 100% accurate, but I just wish that he wasn’t so sensible, not when conventional wisdom guru Roger Simon and “thoughtful” Republican Reihan Salam think he should run.
The fact that Romney got skunked in an election he (stupidly) thought he was going to win, the fact that he stepped on his own dick in his monumentally stupid “47%” remarks—a basket of “poor people eat shit” clichés that he clearly believes in despite their obvious falsity—couldn’t dissuade Reihan and Roger from a-wishin’ and a-hopin’ that Mitt would toss his hat back in the ring can only mean that two smart, well-connected right-wingers have absolutely zero faith in the current Republican crop of candidates, a crop that is, everyone agrees, far above average.
And so this miserable liberal, who is so not into Hillary Clinton, enjoyed one brief moment of schadenfreude. Hey, it was fun while it lasted. Now if Reihan and Roger would only rediscover Newt Gingrich!
