Politico’s media watchdog Dylan Byers passes along this note from Mother Jones regarding the GOP’s response to President Obama’s penultimate State of the Union Address, which will be delivered by hog castrator extraordinaire Joni Ernst, freshman senator from Iowa. There will, in fact, be two Republican responders—Florida freshman congressman Rep. Carlos Curbelo will be doing the honors in Spanish. A refreshing gesture of diversity from the GOP? Yes, indeed, but, as the Mother reports, Carlos won’t be speaking for himself. He’ll be reading a translation of Joni’s speech. And what will Joni be saying? You’ll have to tune in to be sure, but, the Mother also reports, in the past, Joni “has endorsed English as a national language and once sued Iowa’s secretary of state for offering voting forms in languages other than English.”
