Bloomberg has a nice—“nice” as in hideously ugly—story on the Dept. of Homeland Security’s passionate determination to investigate anything that might turn out to be worth investigating, particularly if the facts were different. For a variety of reasons, it’s a thing in China to have your baby in the U.S., if you’ve got the cash. The U.S. officials in China who grant visas have a fairly wide discretion when it comes to granting them. If you say you’re coming to the U.S. to have a baby, well, they may let you in, or they may not. It’s entirely their decision. So sometimes women will lie about it.
Well, anyone who lies about anything is suspect, right? What’s in your belly, honey, a baby or a bomb? Better safe than sorry! Better to harass and humiliate anyone and everyone, on the slightest pretext! Hey, it’s the American way!
