Yes, much as I hate to admit it, George F. (“F as in FREEEEEEEEKY!!!!!”) Will, perhaps my all-time piñata/bête noire, has a point in his latest screed, “Scientific silencers on the left are trying to shut down climate skepticism", because that’s exactly what’s happening.
I’ve previously complained about the utterly meretricious suit brought by a bunch of cash and notoriety-hungry Democratic state attorneys general accusing various right-wing groups of a long variety of thought crimes regarding global warming. George, not too surprisingly, agrees with me. Naturally, George being George, he has to babble on a bit on the essence of progressivism, the IRS not suppression of “Tea Party” activists1, the Late Medieval Warming Period, and other off-topic topics before getting to his point, but his point is a good one: it shouldn’t be a crime to have an opinion.
Afterwords
“It shouldn’t be a crime to have an opinion” may seem to be a bit of a slender topic on which to devote 800 words. Well, you wouldn’t want poor George to have to write about what’s happening to the Republican Party, would you?
- The article George refers us to to prove his case against the IRS says “The IRS inspector general cleared the White House earlier this month of any involvement in the targeting, stating in a 48-page report that the targeting was not politically motivated and instead resulted from staff not understanding their jobs and acting insubordinately.” But when George F. Will makes up his mind not to understand something, he doesn’t. ↩︎
