Well, in fact, Dunkirk (above) copped three Oscars, but all in the non-glamorous “technical” categories, while critical fave raves The Disaster Artist (one nomination only!), War for the Planet of the Apes (likewise!), The Post (two), and Baby Driver (three, but only “technicals”) were shut out entirely! Yeah, I guess no one cares about egomaniacs in Hollywood and DC, furry animals, and deaf people!
Okay, I guess that’s a little unfair, but so is life. I’ve taken a jaundiced view of the Oscars ever since the ninth grade, back in 1959, when I went to see Ben Hur and thought it was the worst film I’d ever seen.1 Then it won eleven Oscars! Go figure! You know what I figured? That adults are dumb!
