I have, before—many times before—ridiculed dear Megan’s frequent efforts to find something—anything—to criticize about the Democratic Party rather than deal with the elephant-sized pile of dung in the room that is the current day Republican Party. In her latest “just trying to be helpful” effort—Democrats should have helped McCarthy hold his job — for their own sake—which constitutes a pretty substantial pile of dung in its own right— Megan “explains” why Democrats should be so grateful to former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for not shutting down the federal government that they should pull his chestnuts out of the fire—chestnuts that he cast into the fire, thanks to his own hunger for office, by making promises to Republican fire eaters that he knew he couldn’t keep—while also making promises to the Democrats that he knew he couldn’t keep, and wouldn’t keep, since he had no intention of ever doing so in the first place.
Yes, Megan, the Democrats should have compromised to help Kevin McCarthy, who was one of 147 Republican senators and representatives who voted against certifying Joe Biden as president elect, who voted to aid and abet Donald Trump’s seditious effort to overturn our government and occupy the office of president of the United States of America as an unelected dictator, a man who labored to prevent any meaningful investigation into the storming of the U.S. Capitol instigated by President Trump to effect his his illegal occupation of the White House, a man who broke his word to Democrats in the House of Representatives over and over again, and, while (of course) voting against the impeachment of Donald Trump, instigated an entirely unfounded “pre-impeachment” investigation of President Biden. Yes, Megan, this is the sort of man Democrats should do business with.
Ever since the election of Bill Clinton, Republicans have cared more about their party than they have cared about their country. Now Megan McArdle cares more about the opinion of her pro-Trump friends than she cares about her country. Classy!
