Haven’t had your morning coffee yet? Well, too bad, because I am playing the Hitler card this morning, and there’s nothing you can do about it. I will do Mr. Ponnuru the favor of quoting him according to the letter rather than the spirit, to wit: DeSantis lacks moral clarity on Ukraine. His critics lack prudence.
Uh huh, Mr. Ponnuru, uh huh. Vladimir Putin invades Ukraine, announces that Ukraine will now be, as it always has been, a province of Russia, and Governor DeSantis calls that a “territorial dispute” and Mr. Ponnuru calls that “a lack of clarity”. Well, I call that bullshit, yet another exercise in right-wing whataboutisme, something Mr. Ramesh has pretty much been doing for a living for the past seven years, carefully explaining to all and sundry that even though Donald Trump most definitely is a moral atrocity, he probably isn’t the worst moral atrocity ever to disfigure the surface of this planet, and therefore it’s wrong to unreservedly declare that he is. It’s important in these matters, after all, to maintain a sense of proportion, not to mention “prudence”, and not to rush to extremes. And now he wants to work the same gag on behalf of Gov. DeSantis. And I call that bullshit.
And I have to wonder exactly why the Washington Post feels the need to pay Mr. Ponnuru to peddle this particular brand of bullshit to its readers. I mean, I’m sure Mr. Ponnuru could provide a perfectly honest conservative critique of President Biden’s budget, or explain why Dobbs was “correct”, but why pay him to run this sort of right-wing hypocrisy? The Post is forever whining, in classic “woke” fashion, about “misinformation”, particularly of the right-wing sort, and here they are paying Mr. Ponnuru to produce it! Sad!
