Tumblr lost porno, and now it’s losing Alan Vanneman! It’s true. I’ve moved my website, as you can tell if you’re reading this. I (naturally) didn’t know what I was getting into when I moved my now-ancient “blogspot” blog to Tumblr, which was rumored at the time to be cool. As it turns out, what made Tumblr cool to a lot of people was porno, which I didn’t even know about at the time. Apparently, there was tons of porno on Tumblr, but somehow I never saw any.
Anyway, I am now on my own unique website, not a part of anyone, so if I feel like publishing porno I guess I can, but I won’t. As you can see, the new site is more grown up and sophisticated, allowing you to “jump” to stories, so you can see what I’ve been writing and complaining about for the past week or so. In addition, the search mechanism is significantly improved over Tumblr, which wasn’t much interested in “the past.” The links to my novels and other writing (“Books”) has been spiffed up a bit as well, with excerpts from each of the ten I’ve published. Also, a front-page photo to liven things up a little. The current shot is of the Capitol, framed by an arch at Union Station. Otherwise, the content will not change, consisting largely of groans, snark, and diatribes on whatever strikes my fancy.
Moving my long tail from Tumblr to here was quite a chore, and if you find broken links or other glitches, please let me know. When I started this blog in the waning days of the Bush Administration, I had no idea that the worst was yet to come, and we can only hope that what we are experiencing, aka Donald Trump, is the worst. Second marriages, snickered Dr. Johnson, rather gracelessly,1 represent the triumph of hope over experience. Well, ha, ha. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Fools, like the brave, taste of death only once, and in this life you can’t ask for a better deal than that.
1. I call Dr. J’s jibe graceless because he married largely for money, and his wife supported him better than he could support himself. So why put on airs?
HI Alan: congrations on leaving Tumblr and setting up your own web site. we are all looking forward to seeing you (somewhere) on Sat Oct. 12. Jeanne was hoping to come, but her sciatica is too painful to make the trip. Hope you are well. Love, Peggy
