Ross Douthat, whom I sometimes like to call Ross Dumbfuck,* leaves off caterwauling about the possibility that the Republican Party will abandon its “abortion is murder” mantra (which does not, of course, imply that women who get abortions are murderers) to say what needed, so much, to be said about … Adrian Grenier:
Sometimes I like Entourage, but I’ve had it in for Adrian Grenier ever since he singlehandedly dragged The Devil Wears Prada down from an A- movie to a B, so my answer to the interesting question of whether he’s a good enough actor to play a bad one is a resounding no. (And if you want a more revealing look inside the mind of a not-quite-good-enough Hollywood star than Grenier’s mediocre thespianing provides, I recommend turning off HBO and digging up the great New Yorker profile of Jaime Pressly – “The Almost It Girl” - that Rebecca Mead wrote five years ago.)
I confess that I do not know who Adrian Grenier is. Furthermore, even if I did know Adrian, I can’t say that I’d be upset about the quality of his acting skills. But it’s nice to know that Ross has things on his mind other than the impending decline and fall of Western Civilization.
Afterwords
I did see The Devil Wears Prada, and I pretty much gave it a C.
*Churlish, I know, but also damn-near irresistible.
