Continuing his “Dubya got it right” approach to handling the press, President Obama celebrated the signing of a bill to promote freedom of the press around the world this Monday by refusing to take any questions. Today, the President held a “news conference” (notice he didn’t say “press conference”) with Mexican President Felipe Calderón, deigning to answer one question, from a reporter from the Spanish language Univision network.
Peter Baker of the NYT castigates the President for his obvious sidestep of any awkward questions on last night’s election returns here. Jonathan Chait of TNR is offended here: “…the notion that this is the burning question of the day, and something he must be held accountable for, is kind of daffy.”
Right, because why should the President of the United States have to answer questions about, you know, elections?
