Yes, Democrats never seem to learn. Winning an election doesn’t mean you get to have everything you’ve always wanted for Christmas. You could, I guess, excuse Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama, for all getting it wrong, but Joe Biden, surely the oldest DC hand ever elected to the presidency, can’t exactly claim inexperience as an excuse.
Of course, Uncle Joe didn’t invent the modern Democratic Party. In fact, no one has ever accused Uncle Joe of being “woke” in any sense of the term. No, he inherited the party from the crazies, and now, somehow, he has to come to terms with them.
Obviously, I hope he can find a “middle way”. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer have to put their gray heads together and say “this isn’t working”, and then figure out a way to tell the kids “this isn’t working” in a way that the kids can accept.
I’m not really sure how they can do this. The age gap between the old and new is so wide that one can wonder. One can also wonder if Joe has the mental energy to pull a Bill Clinton, to find a “middle way guru” who can tell the left to, basically, go to Hell, and lead Joe to victory in 2024, because 2022 is shaping up to look like a blood bath. Yes, a lot can change in a year, but that doesn’t always happen.
That’s why Joe needs a Dick Morris, if you’re wondering who the Hell he is. Dick was a soulless political operative who basically saved Bill Clinton’s ass by showing him how to tack to the right, to the fury and consternation of both the Democratic Left and the lamestream media, many of whom, like the Washington Post and the New York Times, hated Clinton for his lack of respect for them (and, often, Israel).1
It’s quite “arguable” that Morris did in fact save Clinton’s ass, before exiting the big time in a truly Clintonian manner, somehow getting caught sucking a whore’s toes during the 1996 Democratic Convention.2 Well, if it takes a toe-sucking whoremaster to get Uncle Joe reelected, and keep the Republicans out of the White House, I am all in.
1. William Safire, now forgotten, but then dean of the New York Times editorial page, launched a furious assault on Hillary Clinton very early in the administration, based, I very strongly suspect, on a private conversation in which she expressed, either directly or unconsciously, a complete lack of interest in Israel. David Broder, similarly forgotten, but once the dean of the Washington Post editorial page, expressed a similar hatred for Bill Clinton, denouncing him endlessly for trivial transgressions that had nothing to do with Broder’s real beef, Clinton’s relatively “even-handed” approach to Israel.
2. True story. You could look it up.
